A theatre without a curtainProject title: A theatre without a curtain – rehabilitation and integration of the disabled through theatre Beneficiary: „Jaś i Małgosia” Children Support Foundation City: Łódź Voivodeship: łódzkie Implementation period: October 2007- April 2009 Focus area: Support and reinforcement of position of the underprivileged and discriminated Insperation for this project came from two year experience of the Foundation in working with the intelectually impaired wards in „Awakening” theatre. In the programme assumptions two directions for activities were indicated: rehabilitation and adaptation work with the wards and promotional activities.  Rehabilitation activities were divided into 4 stages: I – initial part of the workshops, where the Participants were acquainted with the project aims and prepared to participate in theatre meetings; II – practical part – preparation and presentation of the first play called „We are all crazy” showed in April 2008 in Manufaktura in Łódź; III – practical part which consolidates and perfects skills (movement, speech, socio-psychological) acquired during the workshops; IV – summarising part – preparation and presentation of a play „We do not judge” in Jaracza theatre in Łódź. Promotional activities were mostly based on billboards situated around Łódź. „A theatre without a curtain” project has brought many advantages to its participants. It is impossible to name them all, especially the non-material ones. It showed what great things can our wards can do. They only need to be given a chance. Our disabled actors have gotten one and used it. They changed their weakness into strength and talked about their feelings and the fact they should not be treated as lesser people, or without respect. We are all human beings. We have our own quirks, shortcomings, we do harm to ourselves. Ninka with Down syndrome or Hubert with cerebral parsy are not worse than a racing driver risking his life for money or a cup, or than a workaholic counting time with new work challenges. Each human is different. We are different and similar. Thanks to financing from the NGO Fund one hundred wards of the „Jaś i Małgosia” Children Support Fundation, „Pomoc” Association and Łódź-Bałuty Society for Children have gotten their chance. A good outcome of the project was reinforcement of the „Jaś i Małgosia” Children Support Association as an organisation. Thanks to billboard action, the organisation’s visibility has increased, and with it donation within 1% of the tax ( after 3rd part, up to 240 thousand, and after 4th up to 2m. zł).
