The term „environment: means something more or less different to every one of us. Human activity causes many difficulties for the surroundings. People would like to live in clean surroundings and use its natural resources at will. Not so long ago the natural resources were thought to be inexhaustible. Current affairs show us different examples. We are a part of nature, and by destroying it, disregarding its laws – we are destroying our surroundings and ourselves. Aim of the natural sciences teaching should not only be to provide an appropriate amount of information, but also to create attitudes allowing skullful taking of effective decisions on dangers towards the environment.

Barczyca Valley Recommends

fops30151dThe project is implemented in the area of Barczyca Valley (communes: Milicz, Cieszków, Krośnice, Żmigród, Twardogóra, Odolanów, Przygodzice, Sośnie), the largest Polish area of protected habitats within the European network Natura 2000 and the „Barczyca Valley” Landscape Park. The Barczyca Valley is an area starting 60 km north of Wrocław and spreading along the river valley up to Ostrów Wielkopolski. The feature that distincts it from other regions is 700 years of tradition in karp breeding, over 8 thousand hectars of breeding ponds. On their basis, throught the centuries, a unique biological diversity was created because of human activity

Protection of the white stork

The white stork is a species protected by the power of Bonn Convention, Brno Convention, and is mentioned in the Bird Directive of the EU among the species most endangered with extinction. Stork’s breeding places are almost only in Europe. In order to keep the Eastern stork’s population in good condition, the „Bocian” Environmental Association has initiated international activities connected with this species.

Multimedia Eco-Library

The project is directed to the citizens of Białystok and its suburbs. The project assumes implementation between August 2009 and July 2010 at the „PRO – EKOPLANET” headquarters. The library allows to:

  • borrow books and films about nature;
  • see films anout nature (hour-long movies with skreenings twice a week,

all free of charge.

Illegal trading endangered species in Poland

Illegal trade with endangered species is a procedure including hundreds of millions of live and dead specimens around the world. In the experts’ opinion, apart from degradation of natural habitats it is the greatest danger to survival of 35000 species of animals and plants. The scale of this phenomenon is shown by the fact that it is the third in size illegal trade after drugs and weapons.

GMO - in a bitesize

In 2009 the Civil Affairs Institute has implemented a project named "GMO - in a bitesize". The project was focused on educating about Genetically Modified Organisms. Within this undertaking we have initiated a national campaign - "Natural Genes" aimed at focusing public attention towards this little known subject.
